Template — review with counsel before launch. This is reasonable boilerplate tailored to Sonnely, provided to get you started. It is not legal advice and must be reviewed by a lawyer before you rely on it.
Effective January 1, 2026
Welcome to Sonnely. These Terms are the agreement between you and Sonnely for using our website, apps, and services (together, the “Service”). Please read them — by creating an account or using Sonnely, you agree to them.
1. Who can use Sonnely
You must be at least 13 years old to use Sonnely. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. You promise the information you give us is accurate and that you will keep it current.
2. Your account
You are responsible for what happens on your account and for keeping your login secure. Tell us promptly if you believe someone has used your account without permission. You may close your account at any time from your settings, where you can also export your data or request deletion.
3. The community we want to build
Sonnely is a cozy place to track your reading, get recommendations from our AI Librarian, make friends through books, and join clubs. To keep it warm and safe for everyone, you agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, bully, or hate on other readers.
- Post content that is unlawful, sexually explicit involving minors, or that infringes someone else’s rights.
- Spam, scam, scrape, or attempt to disrupt or reverse-engineer the Service.
- Misrepresent who you are, or impersonate Sonnely staff, authors, or other members.
- Use Sonnely as a dating or hookup app — friendship through books is the point.
We may remove content or limit accounts that break these rules. Our moderation decisions aim to be fair and proportionate, and we offer a way to appeal them.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of the reviews, shelves, club posts, messages, and other content you create on Sonnely. By posting it, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and share that content as needed to operate and promote the Service. You are responsible for the content you post and confirm you have the right to share it.
5. Subscriptions, clubs, and payments
Some features — such as premium AI companions, paid book clubs, and live events — require payment. Pricing and billing are described at the point of purchase and in our Payment Terms. Creators who run paid clubs or events are also bound by our Creator Terms.
6. AI features
The AI Librarian and reading companions generate recommendations and conversation to make Sonnely feel personal. AI output can be wrong or incomplete, so please use your own judgment — it is for enjoyment and discovery, not professional advice.
7. Intellectual property
Sonnely, our logo, and the look and feel of the Service belong to us. Book metadata, covers, and other third-party material belong to their respective owners. Nothing in these Terms gives you the right to use our branding without permission.
8. Disclaimers and liability
Sonnely is provided “as is.” To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim implied warranties and are not liable for indirect or incidental damages arising from your use of the Service. Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain limitations, so parts of this may not apply to you.
9. Changes and ending these Terms
We may update these Terms as Sonnely grows; we’ll let you know about meaningful changes and ask you to accept them when required. You may stop using Sonnely at any time, and we may suspend or end accounts that violate these Terms.
